My NICK, my best friend, and tbe pearls.
I would like to tell you a story about a most amazing man his name is Nicholas Teerlink.Let me start at the beginning I had met a really great lady by the name of Margaret, and we became friends she kept mentioning I needed to meet her husband Margaret was in her sixties when I met her and she had her second husband she was his third wife his first two wives both and passed away one day I happened to be in Salt Lake City and I called Margaret and asked her if it was okay if I could come by and meet her Nick.I figured if she loved him he must be amazing I knew Nicholas was in his mid-to-late eighties when I met him or before I met him I should say but it was what happened the moment we met the night we met that will forever change my life.
I pulled up in front of Margarets house I went to the door and rang it.Margaret answered and gave me a big hug we're both very big Huggers by the way. As I walked into the house I saw an older gentleman sitting in a recliner reading a book as I started to walk forward he got very excited he looked up at me and said there you are and as I looked at him he seemed so familiar to me and we immediately started a conversation , two old lost friends reconnecting only Nick and I had never met well at least not on this Earth. Margaret was standing there completely stunned unsure what was happening she was going to introduce us and here we were hugging and crying and so excited to be reunited it doesn't really matter to me what your spiritual beliefs are this is my story and Nicholas story and even Margaret story because she shared them with me.
Nicholas very quietly said to Margaret I'm
Going to tell her the story I sat down in front of nicks chair on the floor and put my hands on his lap began to tell me back when he got engaged to his first wife he was a Jeweler he was a very famous jeweler in the Salt Lake area at the time he made four sets of a necklineace and a bracelet made them out of pearls and chose which one very carefully after he gave her necklace she asked him who give a three or four he said well two of them I'm not sure yet but one of them is for my best friend his wife was curious shouldn't I be your best friend he said yes but this is a different kind of best friend we were tightly connected through a spiritual connection we understood each other despite the age difference.
So our story precedes he stays married to Margaret until she passes I missed him my whole life we connected on the spiritual subjects and we could talk for hours about our hopes our dreams and we understood how each other felt and what each other thought.
As a small child will go up to its mother and say mother can I go play with my friends or can my friends come play with me I used to call Margaret at least once a week when I was in Salt Lake working and I would always say Margaret I have a treat could I please come see Nicholas she would laugh and say course you can he'll be so excited I would always show up with a donut or some kind of treat and I will always have a couple of candy bars that I would give him and he would hide those for Margaret the neat thing was he didn't hide them so he could eat them he had them and then when she was having a bad day and things were not going her way Nicholas would produce her favorite candy bar she would laugh and ask him where it was when he would say it doesn't matter you're having a bad day go sit enjoy this candy bar Margaret the world will be right.
So here we are now I got to spend a wonderful wonderful several years with my nick or as Margaret and I used to say our Nick he was our nick of time.for women who loved him. Married him yes I never loved Nicholas in the way that you would marry someone I loved him in the way anyone would love their best friend age is irrelevant when your spirits connect with each other one day I got a call from Margaret she said that Nicholas was in a bad way maybe I should come by the whole drive down there I cried how can I walk into a room with even the thought of losing somebody I felt like I'd waited for funny thing was he waited six years for me to be born I'd only waited my short 40 Years of the time I arrived in front of Nicholas and Margaret home my heart knew that wasn't good but my heart also knew that my best friend needed me it was time for me to be his best friend I walked in with a treat from the bakery for Miss Margaret and I had a candy bar the large size for my necklace I knew one last time he would give it to his Margaret he slid it under the cover of the bed and sweet, it was a game we all play that we all loved and those moments were precious to me
The speaker President Faust he stopped and looked down at me and smiled and then he said I need to acknowledge Nicholas's friend I've known Nicholas for 50 years and he would often mention that he missed his friend and he wished he wished that his friend would hurry up and find him of course I cried it was a beautiful service right before we went to the cemetery the President Faust asked me if I was step around back of the church he said that the prophet had come back and that he wanted to talk to me I was scared I was nervous intimidated and humbled all of the same moment the prophet said Nicholas loved you and waited over 60 years to meet you he said Nicholas told me that he wanted me to pray for you and he wanted to pray that God would send me somebody special that could love me unconditionally and look after me until I could be reunited with my friend, until she finds the right love. I smile often when I think of Nicholas, he was worried. well in true Nicholas fashion he was a gentleman all the way I got a call one day from Margaret she had left the state and was living back East she needed to come to Utah and asked if she could stay one night with me I was a little surprised but I welcomed with open arms we had a dinner my children were so excited they adored her my ex-husband liked her when she pulled up hugging her took away some of the pain of missing Nicholas and stories and knowing that I was learning from him I mentioned that to Margaret and she said we need to have a talk she sat me down and took my hand and reminded me but there was a story I needed to hear that he had never told me that there was a fourth necklace I just assumed he had made three necklaces and that each one of his wives would have them. we sat down on my front porch it was a beautiful late summer evening she handed me a box and said to me Jill there was a fourth necklace he made this necklace before you were ever born he knew even then that you were coming and in his journals he mentioned many times but he's getting impatient and where were you when I open the box I looked at each Pearl very carefully he had chosen each one has spent many hours deciding which Pearl went on which of the four necklaces according to the family and according to his journal he made those for necklaces before I was ever born I almost couldn't believe it it seemed almost so totally out there that this man that I loved his friend of mine I knew he loved me I knew he was going to love me Margaret reminded me that the first thing he said wasn't hello and wasn't my name is Nicholas the first thing he said is where have you been I've really missed you there's my friend and even stranger at the moment I was just trying to figure out where I knew him from but I knew that I knew him. I knew that I missed him I am sure some of you will think that this story sounds a little too far-fetched I'm sure some of you for what and Nicholas and I at a friendship I will always treasure there is a catch to the story by the way, a year after necklace died on the day that he died a year later I was at the library working I was working on a project I went to go to the elevator and ask the doors opened a couple stepped off I wish I was beautiful woman and her and her husband who is on a scooter got off the elevator as they headed towards me I thought I knew them so as they got closer I said hi honey I'm Jill just in case they did not remember remember my name the gentleman was on a scooter and he looked up at me and said young lady are you flirting with me and I said no sir I'm not I apologize I thought I knew you and so we sat down to talk to try to decide for a few minutes how we knew each other it wasn't just that I knew this couple I felt connected to them we became very close friends very quickly I would be at the library every day working as a professional genealogist and they would be there as missionaries who volunteered their time to help other people in the library there were a lot of times that they would have questions and they would come over to me and pretty soon all of the other missionaries that were there to help people used me as their reference guide right after this I got really really sick they didn't know what was wrong I had had problems for a long time a lot of different problems that didn't make any sense I was spending a lot of time in the hospital I was missing a lot of the work that I did and I couldn't be down in salt like at the library I was in the hospital one day and my son called me and said Mom there was a couple that just called they said their name as a Bailey's and that they're your friend I told them that you were in the hospital and you weren't doing good they're on their way up to see you I said but they live far away I don't want them driving 2 hours just to come see me bht they came up to the hospital. Rex on a scooter Debbie by his side and they sat and held my hand and talk to me Rex made the comment you need to get better we haven't figured out yet how we know each other I told them I thought I knew how we knew each other and I explained about Nicholas to them then I explained that Nicholas of told me that within a year of his death there would be somebody that come into my life that would love me unconditionally and that that was his way of making sure I would be okay I explained to the Baileys about Nicholas about our connection and I explained to them about he had told me that within a year of his death I would meet somebody who would love me unconditionally and I told them the story right after they said you need to get better we love you so much yes I believe in all my heart that Nicholas has something to do with me meeting the Bailey family shortly after this my father and my father-in-law both got very ill I was spending time going between my dad and my father in law. they both died within 10 days of each other which was hard on everyone. Even my dad said well Nicholas sent the Baileys guess i will need to go and find your other half. Meeting Nicholas led to the Baileys and it keeps going on.
